Culture was high stress but enjoyable. The hardest part of this job was leaving my family. This Ship was deployed 268 days a year, I loved the travel but missed my family. Limited advancement, must get job offer elsewhere to negotiate a raise; the benefits are not conducive to families with only 12 days off per year including sick and vacation; 1-2% merit increases for all, including poor performers; limited diversity and inclusion - don't be fooled by their mandatory training, women get the raw end of the deal; no female Deputy City Managers; the city manager is impulsive and decisions are based on emotions; he's often irrational. Obtaining a high position is often due to who you know.
Overall, it's unhealthy from my experience. But, with the Virginia economy in shambles, it is better than nothing. Typically good work life balance depending on the particular manager or group that you work for' City Jobs is a niche job board serving the banking and financial institutions in the City. I have been able to circulate my CV to those employers and agencies who practice in my area of work. The site is so easy to use. I registered for jobs by email, and every day I received all new jobs that were relevant to me. I had registered with many sites, but this one is clearly way ahead of the others - come on, copy City Jobs and give them competition - raise the game!
